Golden Canyon is one of the most beautiful areas of Death Valley. Its a short gorge through brightly colored sandstone rocks close to Furnace Creek. Once there was a road through Golden Canyon but it has been washed away a couple of years ago so you have to hike if you want to visit the area (very much recommended). The trail follows the old road and ends after about a mile at the base of a high sandstone cliff called the Red Cathedral. If you want to continue, locate the junction with a smaller trail connecting Golden Canyon with Zabrieski Point.
Directions
Starting at Furnace Creek, follow 190 South and then turn right into Badwater Road. Follow Badwater Road for about 2 miles, the entrance to Golden Canyon is to your left.
