The badwater basin is the lowest point in Death Valley, actually the lowest in the Western hemisphere (-282 feet). The actual lowest point is located several miles from the road and is not easily accessible. Badwater itself is a small pool of salty water (therefore the name) located just beside the Badwater road on the border of the hughe salt flat that covers most of the southern part of Death Valley.
Directions
If you enter Death Valley from the South, just continue on Badwater Road (about 40 miles from the entrance). If you enter from the East, turn left onto Badwater Road at Furnace Creek Inn and continue for about 16 miles until you reach Badwater.
