If you have some time we highly recommend to book a flight with either a plane or a helicopter to fly over and through the canyon. You will not regret this unbelievable experience. You can book flights taking off at Grand Canyon airport (close to Tusayan) or fly the whole way from Las Vegas to the canyon. I like this much better because its wonderful to fly over Lake Mead and finally dive into the canyon from the West.
You might also be better off if you start in Las Vegas because its not that hard to get a free seat compared to Grand Canyon airport so you can decide more or less on the fly. It would be really a shame if you book a flight way in advance and then are experiencing one of those rather hazy days where you can't see that much.
